Run a download/upload/ping measurement from Velona's server infrastructure. Important honesty up front: this measures the server's connection quality, not your device's, useful for checking the platform's own connectivity, not your home broadband.
How to use

Speed tests measure three things: download bandwidth (how fast data arrives), upload bandwidth (how fast it leaves), and latency (the round-trip time of a small packet, in milliseconds). Bandwidth determines how large transfers feel. Latency determines how interactive things feel, a video call cares far more about a stable 40 ms ping than about having 500 Mbps.
This tool is unusual and honestly labeled: it runs server-side, measuring the connection between Velona's server and the speed test network. Browser-based tests (Ookla, fast.com) measure your device's path instead. So use this when the question is about the platform, 'is the server's network slow right now?', or as a reference point when API latency feels off, and use a browser test when the question is your own broadband.
Reading results generally: sustained throughput below your ISP's advertised plan is normal (plans are 'up to' figures. Overhead and shared infrastructure take a cut), but less than half the advertised rate on a wired connection is worth a complaint. High or jittery ping with fine bandwidth indicates congestion or routing issues rather than capacity. Upload is the chronically undersold figure on consumer plans, the one that matters for video calls and pushing code.
One fair caveat on server-side numbers: datacenter connections are typically excellent, so a poor result here is a strong signal something is genuinely wrong, while a great result says little about your own last mile.

Why doesn't this measure MY internet speed?
The measurement runs from Velona's server, so the numbers describe the server's connection. Your browser is only carrying a tiny API request. For your own broadband, use a browser-based test like fast.com, the two tools answer different questions.
What is a good ping?
Under 20 ms is excellent, 20-50 ms good for everything including gaming, 50-100 ms fine for browsing and calls with occasional lag, and above 150 ms noticeably laggy for interactive use. Stability matters as much as the average, jitter ruins calls that mean ping would survive.
Why does the test take up to 45 seconds?
Meaningful bandwidth measurement needs sustained transfers in both directions plus server selection. The tool caps at a 45-second wall clock so it can never hang indefinitely.
Download is fine but uploads crawl, why?
Consumer plans are asymmetric by design: a '100 Mbps' plan is commonly 100 down / 10-20 up. Video calls, backups, and git pushes are upload-bound, which is why they suffer on paper-fast connections. Symmetric bandwidth usually means fiber or business plans.
